In October, Thomas Rau was diagnosed with ALS, commonly know as Lou Gehrig's Disease. Friends and family are raising money to support his medical needs as he works to fight this debilitating diagnosis. If you would like more information about ALS, please visit Thomas has been a resident of the Vail Valley for over 40 years, and he has led an active life as an avid ski instructor, merchant, backgammon player and lover of all things funny. Since his diagnosis, Tom has been unable to work and is slowly requiring more and more therapies and medical interventions to manage his disease. In order to accommodate these needs, Tom and his wife of 40 years, Judy, have moved to their home in Gypsum. Judith is actively working to caretake for his increasing needs. Unfortunately, this diagnosis has left a devastating impact on both Tom's physical abilities and his overall quality of life, and it will not be long before his medical expenses surpass his ability to pay. Thomas' family has set up a fundraising account to help support their medical costs. Donations are being accepted at any Wells Fargo Bank care of the Thomas Rau Benefit Fund.
