What was said: The preliminary budget for Red Canyon High School was $1.2 million, which was originally intended to cover all construction costs. Six weeks ago, $300,000 more was requested and approved by the school board, bringing the current budget to $1.5 million. Recently, it has been discovered that an additional $640,000 is needed to complete the construction.

What this means to you: The alternative high school is costing more than expected, but the school board still wants to build it.



How they voted: Approved unanimously.

What was said: As soon as August, the board will discuss CSAP and ACT results, achievement of district and state standards, Avon Elementary expanding its dual-language program, approving Vail Ski and Snowboard Academy Tutorial Program’s lease at Minturn Middle School, the achievement gap between English-speaking and non-English-proficient students and teacher survey results. As soon as September, the board will discuss staff shortages, preschool council and technology.

What this means to you: The Board of Education will have an issue packed year.
