Tracker: Vail Town Council 3/20/07

How they voted:

– Yes: Foley, Gordon, Hitt, Logan, Moffet, Newbury, Slifer.

What they talked about: The council approved a contract for $160,000 to Hazard County Construction of McDonough, Ga., to build a skate park on top of the Lionshead parking structure.

What’s next? Construction will begin on the park on April 23 and it will be completed in five weeks. The park will be deconstructed again in the fall.

How they voted:

– Yes: Gordon, Hitt, Logan, Moffet, Newbury, Slifer.

– No: Foley.

What they talked about: The council decided to enter into a 120-day negotiation period with the Texas developer who wants to redevelop the Lionshead parking structure into hotels, condos, timeshares, a conference center, more parking and a bus station. The council also agreed to evaluate the developer’s plan to redevelop the Timber Ridge employee housing complex.

What’s next? In the next four months, the town and the developer will draft an agreement that lays out what the developer must do and what the town must do. The council will have to approve that agreement.

How they voted:

– Yes: Foley, Hitt, Logan, Moffet, Newbury.

– No: Gordon, Slifer.

What they talked about: The council approved an increase in the maximum number of condos at Solaris from 69 to 75. However, that increase does not allow for a greater amount of total square footage of condos in the project. The plan also decreases the amount of parking in the project. The developer had to provide 10 additional employee beds as a result of the change.

What’s next? Construction is expected to begin in May, and the project is supposed to be done in 2009.
