What they talked about: The council discussed what to do with the conference center fund, which is expected to have about $9 million by the fall election. The money was gathered from sales tax and lodging tax from 2002 until 2005, when voters rejected a publicly funded conference center and rescinded the taxes.

Participate in The Longevity Project

The Longevity Project is an annual campaign to help educate readers about what it takes to live a long, fulfilling life in our valley. This year Kevin shares his story of hope and celebration of life with his presentation Cracked, Not Broken as we explore the critical and relevant topic of mental health.

A new use for the money would have to be approved by voters. The town had considered a survey to help decide what residents want to do with the money.

What they said: The council decided to postpone an election on the fund until 2008. They said they want to know what’s going to happen with the proposal to build a conference center as part of the Lionshead garage redevelopment.

What’s next? Negotiations continue with the developer that wants to build a conference center as part of the Lionshead parking structure redevelopment.

Ceil Folz, the foundation’s president, asked for the town’s “philosophical” support for a bid. If the bid is successful, the foundation would ask for financial support, Folz said.

What’s next? The bid must be submitted by next month. A selection will be made in May of 2008.
