Traffic up for Denver newspaper’s last Web update
DENVER, Colorado” The E.W. Scripps Co. says traffic to the Web site of the Rocky Mountain News soared on its last day of publication.
The Friday edition of the Denver newspaper was its last, and the staff posted a 21-minute video titled “Final Edition” on the News’ Web site.
Scripps spokesman Tim King says the site had 1.3 million page views Friday, a day of the week that usually has about 400,000 page views.
Cincinnati-based Scripps put the nearly 150-year-old newspaper up for sale in December amid mounting losses but decided to close it after finding no viable buyer.
The News has said the press run for the final edition was 350,000, up from the newspaper’s normal weekday circulation of around 210,000.
