Vail, CO Colorado
AVON, Colorado –The IronKids triathlon takes place in Avon on July 10 and 11. Starting Monday, the Avon rec center will hold training sessions once a week.
Training will take place every Monday through July 7. Training is from 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. for kids ages 6 to 8 and 5:15 p.m. to 6 p.m. for ages 9 to 15.
“Our training clinic will offer kids the opportunity to practice transitioning between sports and learn about the importance of warming up prior to and stretching after exercise,” said Danita Chirichillo, Avon’s special events supervisor.
There will be five divisions at the triathlon: ages 6-8, ages 9-11, ages 12-15, military and teams. Participants ages 12-15 will begin at 7 a.m. with a swim in Nottingham Lake. Athletes will then use closed roads and run on paved walkways along Nottingham Lake and park. Ages 9-11 and 6-8 will follow the same schedule.
Distances for the IronKids Avon will vary, depending on the age of participants. The top five finishers in each age group will qualify for the IronKids National Championship on Oct. 3 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
