GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado ” A body found in a cave near the No Name Tunnel in Glenwood Canyon on Saturday is believed to be that of a transient.

According to Garfield County Deputy Coroner Thomas Walton, the man is presumed to have been dead for at least a few weeks, but the coroner’s office is still awaiting the results of the pathology report to determine the cause and time of death.

“It happened a while back,” Walton said. “His hands were starting to mummify, so we think it’s been at least over a few weeks already.”

The body was discovered by a group of climbers at about 4 p.m. in a cave east of the No Name Tunnel, north of Interstate 70, according Garfield County Sheriff’s Office. The tunnel is east of Glenwood Springs.

Deputies called Garfield County Search and Rescue members, who were able to retrieve the body and clear the scene by midnight. Deputies found no evidence of foul play at the scene.
