‘Transitions’ exhibit by Patrick Matthews on display at Paderewski Fine Art in Beaver Creek
Paderewski Fine Art and The Sportsman’s Gallery in Beaver Creek are exhibiting new works by artist Patrick Matthews. Matthews will attend an opening reception at the gallery Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.After graduating from the University of Arizona, Matthews’ successfully pursued a career as a commercial and residential architect. About 10 years ago, he decided to take an extended leave to focus on his career as an artist. The exhibit, entitled “Transitions,” features numerous new works in a style Matthews has been refining for months. These pieces are an amalgam of his traditional landscapes and the more contemporary abstracts for which he has become known. This new body of work captures the fresh and immediate lines, colors and compositions in the resonating image one’s mind sees in a blink. It is what psychologists refer to as “rapid cognition.” These are images that one rarely forgets, though can be difficult to express in words. They are the transition Matthews presently perceives in his own work and which have been created as a pictorial experience for the viewer.Paderewski Fine Art & The Sportsman’s Gallery is located in Beaver Creek, on the Plaza level of the Hyatt, across from the ice rink.
