GYPSUM – Call it a mix of courtroom drama … and a fairytale.”The Trial of Goldilocks,” a melodrama aimed at some family fun, will be the first performance ever on Gypsum’s new Lundgren Amphitheatre stage. The play will begin at 6 p.m. Friday. The play, geared toward entertaining families, will be presented by the Porchlight Players, a fledgling community theater group that is also making its debut.

Expect to see some familiar faces in the leading rolls. Hillary Robinson will star as Goldilocks, and her dad, John Lowrey, will play the defense attorney. Randy Olin will make his stage debut as the prosecuting attorney; Ann Olin will play the role of Mama Bear; and Ruddy Olin will step into the Papa Bear paws. Bella Lilly is handling the Baby Bear role.Expect to see some cameo appearances by some familiar locals. Terry Quinn will play the judge, and his son, Barry, will be the jury foreman. The jurors include Jenna Roe, Robin Lilly, and Shirley White.”This is community theater. We have to be ready for anything,” says Ann Olin, one of the organizers of the Porchlight Players. All members of the group wear many hats, serving on the Board of Directors, as well as taking part in the productions. The group is learning how to rehearse around different peoples’ work schedules.

They’ve been gathering up costumes, and practicing for an outdoor production, which has its own challenges.”We have to convince people to speak about 120 times louder than they think they have to. It’s definitely a different ball game when playing outside,” observes Olin. They’ve also got a strategy for when loud airplanes fly over: They’ll simply freeze action, then resume when the noise recedes.

The Porchlight Players are also seeking interested citizens to join in the group, whether it be as a board member, heading up committees, fundraising, acting, or helping with productions. For more information, call Olin at 328-9892.Vail, Colorado
