Trial underway in fatal Steamboat bar fight
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. – Two Miami brothers are on trial for a 2009 bar fight in Steamboat Springs that left a soldier dead.Eduardo and David Capote are on trial for assault. Prosecutors say the brothers were in a January, 2009, fight that left Sgt. 1st Class Richard Lopez of Fort Bragg, N.C., dead.On Tuesday, a taxi driver testified that the Capote brohters and two others piled into his cab on the night of the fight and urged him to drive. The driver said he asked why they were out of breath, and they said they’d been in a snowball fight. Before they left the cab, one of the brothers said they’d been in a bar fight.The Capotes’ lawyer is expected to argue that the soldier slipped on an ice-covered road, which caused his death.
