Trooper hurt in Vail Pass crash

VAIL, Colorado “-A Missouri man faces careless driving charges after he rear-ended a Colorado state trooper Monday morning at an accident on Vail Pass, the State Patrol said.

Michael Tipton, 36, of Columbia, Missouri lost control of his 2009 Honda Fit around 9:18 a.m. Monday and crashed into Trooper Michelle Shannon’s patrol car at mile marker 187, according to Sgt. Rich Armstrong of the Colorado State Patrol.

Armstrong said Shannon was on the scene of an earlier accident when she was hit and there was a Colorado Department of Transportation truck and fire truck, both with their lights flashing, behind her parked Ford Crown Victoria.



Armstrong said Shannon was taken for medical care, but wasn’t sure of her condition or when she would return to work.

Tipton was charged with careless driving causing bodily injury.
