Truck fire on I-70 delays traffic Tuesday afternoon
WOLCOTT ” Police had to redirect traffic through Highway 6 for several hours Tuesday after a semi truck crashed into a car abandoned on Interstate 70, police said.
Although the truck’s cabin caught fire after the crash, no one was injured in the accident that happened at about 1 p.m. in the eastbound lane of the highway, mile marker 150, said Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Shawn Olmstead. The other car was severely damaged.
“The truck driver was attempting to adjust the radio when he drove off the side of the road into the shoulder,” Olmstead said.
After the accident, police rerouted traffic through highway 6.
At about 4:30 p.m. police opened one of the eastbound lanes.
“There was moderate traffic backup with the rerouting,” Olmstead said.
Interstate 70 was closed to eastbound traffic at exit 147 for several hours this afternoon due to a truck fire.
The traffic was diverted to Highway 6 at the Eagle interhange.
