Two artists with ‘passion for creative truth’ visit Vail
March 13, 2009
VAIL, Colorado “-Claggett/Rey Gallery, located at 100 E. Meadow Drive in Vail Village, Colorado is hosting painters John and Terri Moyer today from 6 to 8 p.m. More than 30 new works by the artists will be on display.
“John and Terri Moyers are two of the finest traditional painters alive in North America,” said Bill Rey, owner of Claggett/Rey Gallery. “They were mentored by artist Robert Lougheed who ingrained in them a passion for creative truth. He taught them to record from nature and study reflective light, color, good drawing and the subtleties that make the difference from good and great in fine art. In today’s world when most artists are merely creating decorative pabulum, the Moyers have made their name through great fine art.”
John and Terri met in 1979, while painting with Lougheed at the Okanagan Game Farm in British Columbia. They were married in 1982 and the Moyers, along with son Joshua, reside in Santa Fe, NM, where they make a living as professional artists. The history which influenced that area has taken root in their lives and is now at the center of their artwork.
Today, as a family, John and Terri continue to make annual trips to Canada to visit relatives and paint one of Terri’s favorite subject matters, the Canadian Rocky Mountains. They often paint the same subject matter, “But John and I each have our own viewpoint, our own style,” Terri said. “We’re always helping one another.”
The artist’s ability to critique each other’s work is especially valuable, she said.
Both artists fall in the traditional western genre and have won numerous awards from museum shows throughout the United States, but they are not defined by the Western genre alone, Rey said.
