Two cars broken into at Lake Creek

Daily Staff Report

Two cars were broken into Sunday at the West Lake Creek trailhead parking, police said.

At about 2 p.m. a hiker returning to her car found the passenger seat window broken. Her purse was missing, police said.

At about 3 p.m. police got another call saying that another car had been broken into in the same spot. Her purse was missing.

Leonard Valdez, a deputy with the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, said similar crimes happen often at trailhead parking lots in Eagle County.

“People should be aware and hide their valuables or don’t take them in the car when they go for a hike,” Valdez said Sunday.

Valdez said he couldn’t narrow it down to a certain trail.

“It varies,” he said. “It’s countywide.”
