SILT, Colorado – Silt Police Chief Levy Burris said that two citizens aided police in apprehending a Silt man suspected of breaking into vehicles this past weekend.

Burris said that James Aurelio, 20, was contacted by police but fled on foot after pushing an officer.

“He shoved the officer and took off on foot,” Burris said.

As Burris chased Aurelio, a truck cut the suspect off and slowed him down. Then another man from another vehicle got out and tackled Aurelio. Police caught up and were able to place Aurelio under arrest. It’s something that Burris has not seen very often in his law enforcement career.

“We’ve had assistance in the past, but this is one of the first foot pursuits where a person from a vehicle apprehended him,” Burris said. “It was great to see actual citizens involved in their community.”

However, the two concerned citizens left before police could identify them.

“It would be nice to know who they are,” Burris said. “I’d like the opportunity to say thanks.”

Burris requested that the two men who helped in the apprehension of Aurelio contact the Silt Police Department at (970) 876-2735.

Another suspect in the case, Jesse Coszalter, 20, turned himself in to police the following day. Both were booked at the Garfield County Jail on charges of trespassing, theft and theft by receiving. Aurelio was also charged with obstructing an officer.
