Two dead in head-on crash Tuesdsay, May 16, on Colorado 13 north of Rifle
GARFIELD COUNTY — Two people were killed Tuesday afternoon in a crash on Colorado 13 north of Rifle, and the highway had a long-term closure, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office said.
The sheriff’s office said the head-on crash between a pickup truck and tanker occurred at 4:15 p.m.
The road was closed in both directions from mile marker 4.5 to mile marker 19. The accident occurred at mile 15.
Garfield County Coroner Rob Glassmire said one victim was a 79-year-old man who lived in Colorado but was not a Garfield County resident.
The other man killed was a 59-year-old resident of Utah.
Identities were being withheld pending notification of relatives.
It was the third fatal accident in three days in the county. A teenager was killed Sunday night near Carbondale when she was in a car that went down an embankment, and a 50-year-old man died Monday north of Dotsero in a Jeep accident.
