Two injured in seven-car West Vail wreck
Vail, CO Colorado
VAIL, Colorado ” Two people were injured in a seven vehicle accident on I-70 in West Vail Wednesday morning. The westbound lanes were closed for about 90 minutes, Vail Police said.
A black Ford pickup truck carrying two people lost traction on the road, which was well plowed but sill snowpacked and icy in areas, police said.
The truck swerved between lanes several times, hitting both the median rail and shoulder rail, causing a chain reaction accident that damaged six other vehicles.
The pickup truck rolled over, and the two passengers were the only ones taken to the hospital. One other person was treated and released at the scene.
The condition of the injured passengers taken to the hospital were unknown at the time, police said.
The pickup truck was traveling faster than 65 miles per hour, and charges are pending, police said.
Vail Police Sgt. Annette Dopplick said drivers need to be careful on the road, and that the posted speed limits aren’t always safe speeds in winter conditions.
