Udall leads Democrats on space committee

Eagle County’s congressman, Mark Udall, has been named the top ranking Democrat on the House Science Committee’s Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics.In that position, the Boulder Democrat will oversee America’s space exploration programs, including NASA, space policy and astronautical and aeronautical research and development programs. “It’s well-positioned to address many issues facing our nation’s space program, including the president’s moon-to-Mars proposal and how it should be funded, the life of the Hubble space telescope, space and earth science, and research and development, all of which are important to Colorado’s space economy,” Udall said. Colorado has the fourth-largest space-related economy in the nation.The subcommittee’s primary job is to provide legislative, oversight and investigative authority on matters relating to astronautical and aeronautical research and development and its contractors.Udall will also serve on the Subcommittee on Environment, Technology and Standards, which oversees research and development programs at the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the National Institute of Standards and Technology and technology programs at the Department of Commerce.Vail, Colorado
