Under the Big Top for Eagle Flight Days

It’s the last weekend in June and Eagle Flight Days is ready to hit town.
Actually, Flight Days 2013 is ready to run away with the circus.
The theme for this year’s community celebration is “Under the Big Top” and festival-goers will be treated to circus-inspired fun. From the baby contest and pet show that launch the fun on Friday afternoon to the kids talent show that concludes the event on Sunday afternoon, Flight Days offers something for all ages and all interests.
Plan to head down to Eagle Town Park this weekend, and here is a rundown of the Flight Days events:
Pet Show

When: Friday, June 28
Time: 5 p.m.
Where: Eagle Town Park
Details: Hosted by Castle Peak Veterinary Service. Local kids are invited to bring their pets — anything furry, feathery, scaley or slimy. A slew of prizes will be awarded, including best costume.

Baby Contest
When: Friday
Time: 5 p.m.
Where: Eagle Town Park
Details: This contest is for babies younger than the age of 2. Ribbons and prizes will be awarded in the following categories:
Best smile
Best eyes
Biggest dimples
Best theme wear (Under the Big Top)
Chubbiest feet
Best hat
Best swim suit
Most vocal
Baby relative look alike
Best hair

Pancake Breakfast
When: Saturday
Time: 7 to 9 a.m.
Where: Eagle Town Park
Details: Members of the Eagle Lions Club will serve up their signature flapjacks.
Contact: Look for the Lions Club trailer and the folks wearing purple vests.
Flight Days Parade
Theme: Under the Big Top
When: Saturday
Time:10 a.m.
Where: Broadway
Details: Line up begins at 9 a.m. on Fifth Street and judging will be at 9:30 a.m. This year’s parade grand marshals are Willy Powell, who recently retired after 29 years as Eagle town manager, and Marilene Miller, who will be retiring next month after 38 years as Eagle town clerk/treasurer.

Vail Precision Lawn Chair Brigade
What: Performance by the team following the parade

Colorado VFW Band
What: Patriotic music concert presented by the 20-member Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post 9644 Band, based in Denver
When: Saturday
Time: 11 a.m.
Where: Eagle Town Park
Kids Crafts Tent
When: Saturday
Time: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Eagle Town Park
Details: Free kids craft activities, sponsored by the Eagle Flight Days Committee.
Horseshoe Tournament
When: Singles competition is Saturday, beginning immediately after the parade.
Doubles competition is Sunday beginning at 9 a.m.

Details: Entry fee is $10 per person
Silent Auction
What: Silent auction prizes include everything from golf and lodging packages to landscaping materials. Proceeds from the auction will help defray costs for the 2014 Flight Days celebration

Strawberry Bake Off
When: Saturday
Time: Noon to 1 p.m.
Where: Eagle Town Park
Details: Whip up your best strawberry confection for this competition. Please provide enough for 100 small tastings. Serving supplies will be provided. Tasters will vote on first, second and third place. For more information, contact Sarah Braucht at 970-328-9623 or sarah@townof eagle.org.
Blooperball
When: Saturday, June 29
Time: 1 p.m.
Where: Bull Pasture Park
Details: Cost is $10 per team for players aged 10 years and older. Teams must include five males and five females. The winning team takes home a $500 prize and the runner-up team wins $250. Costumes are encouraged. Pre-register teams by calling 970-328-5277 or emailing sheryl@wecmrd.org.
Basketball Shoot Out
When: Saturday
Time: 3 to 5 p.m.
Where: Eagle Town Park
Details: Register on site prior to competition start time. Prizes will be awarded.
Karaoke
When: Saturday
Time: 4 to 5:30 p.m.
Where: Eagle Town Park
Details: The karaoke options include thousands of options Sign up at the stage when the music begins.
Run for the Future 5K and 10K Walk/Run
When: Sunday
Time: 6:30 a.m. registration;
7:30 a.m. start for 5K walk/run;
8:15 a.m. start for 10K run;
8:30 a.m. fun run.
Where: Run starts at Fourth and Broadway and loops through Eagle Ranch.
Details: Hosted by the Eagle Valley High School Foundation, the run honors the memory of Jake Brock and raises money for the Eagle Valley High School Devils Against Destructive Decisions club. Cost is $25 in advance and $30 on the day of the event. Pre-registration forms are available at Eagle Town Hall. Registration will be accepted up to 20 minutes prior to each scheduled event. Yoga in the Park
When: Sunday
Time: 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.
Where: Eagle Town Park
Details: Instructors will donate their time for the class, but donations will be accepted.
Talent Show
When: Sunday
Time: Registration beings at 11 a.m. and ends at 11:45 a.m. The show starts at noon.
Where: Eagle Town Park Centennial Stage
Details: Competition divisions are:
Preschool to age 6
Ages 7 to 9
Ages 10 to 13
Ages 14 to 17
Cash prizes for the top-three finishers in each category.
