US energy lab in Colorado to get stimulus funding
DENVER, Colorado ” Energy Secretary Steven Chu will visit the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden Wednesday to announce that the lab will receive millions of dollars in federal stimulus funds for wind-energy research.
Colorado Sen. Mark Udall and Rep. Ed Perlmutter, both Democrats, said Tuesday it’s unclear how much additional money the lab would get, but they believe it will be significant.
The money is part of the $787 billion stimulus law signed by President Barack Obama in Denver in February. Obama has emphasized renewable energy and energy efficiency as ways to improve the economy and protect the environment.
Udall and Perlmutter say NREL is the “crown jewel” in that effort and they will continue to fight for more funding and staff for the lab.
