Vail, Beaver Creek ski patrols host avalanche workshop

VAIL, Colorado – At 7 p.m. Wednesday, the Vail and Beaver Creek Ski Patrols will present the third session of their Eagle County Avalanche Awareness Series. The session will be held at the Vail Mountain Marriott Resort to educate the community about snow and avalanche safety. Discussion topics will be led by members of the Vail and Beaver Creek Ski Patrol and will include presentations on the state of the area’s current snowpack from Vail ski patroller Drew Warkentin, a presentation on snow science from veteran Vail ski patroller Kerry Kuntz, as well as a presentation on mountain meteorology from Beaver Creek ski patroller Jeff Thompson. Other discussion topics will focus on understanding terrain and avalanche mitigation.Guests are encouraged to arrive early at the Vail Mountain Marriott Resort for pizza and soft drinks donated by Vendetta’s as well as an opportunity to check out information booths by Vail and Beaver Creek Ski Patrol, Backcountry Access, Friends of CAIC (Colorado Avalanche Information Center), Weston Snowboards and more. The session will begin promptly at 7 p.m. The event is free to the community and will feature giveaways including a raffle to win a Weston snowboard.
