The spirit of the season was shining brightly as one neighbor helped another during this time of giving and sharing. The Vail Board of Realtors® donated $6,500 to the Cancer Caring House, scheduled to be built at Shaw Regional Cancer Center. The Cancer Caring House is a much needed facility that will provide convenient and comfortable accommodations for cancer patients undergoing treatment at the Shaw Regional Cancer Center.

The 12-room facility located in Edwards is essential for the 73 percent of SRCC patients and their families who come from communities outside the Vail Valley for what is usually a six- to eight-week treatment period.

The Shaw Outreach Team, a local group of volunteers who have organized fundraising efforts for Cancer Caring House, has attained 90 percent of their $3.5 million goal. As a result of the team’s wonderful fundraising success, groundbreaking for the building is scheduled in March of 2006. Because of the impressive support, coupled with the immediate need at the center for accommodations, the facility will be completed in one rather than the original two phases.

The recent Vail Board of Realtor® Installation Dinner, an event to install the 2006 Board of Directors, donated proceeds to Cancer Caring House. Bev Trout, chair of the board, presented the check to Suzy Donohue, president of the Shaw Outreach Team Board, and Susan Morrill, vice president/secretary of the Shaw Outreach Team Board.
