Vail boutique owners head to fashion week
VAIL, Colorado Fashion fans, prepare to be jealous: Vail boutique owners Jenn and Luca Bruno are headed to fashion week in New York. The Brunos fly to the Big Apple on Sunday for a five-day soak in city chic. Its a celebration of fashion, and youre with people who have the same passion, Jenn said. Theres an excitement level that only happens at fashion week.Amid the excitement, the Brunos hope to score clothes for their Vail boutiques, Luca Bruno and Due. They plan to scour six to eight showrooms per day in search of designer digs for next winter. We look at the entire collection, and if we really love a line, well buy about 30 pieces from the line, Jenn Bruno said.Mere hours after touching down in New York, the Brunos plan to attend a runway show from Y-3 a fusion between Japanese designer Yoji Yamamoto and Adidas.Last year, they built a 100-foot ice wall, Jenn Bruno said. All the models walked past what looked like a giant brick ice wall. It was cold. They gave everyone hand warmers and fleece blankets.Exactly what Yamamoto has in store for this year is anyones guess. American designers keep their collections under wraps.A lot of the American designers, theyre incredibly secretive until their show, Jenn said. The suspense comes to an end during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, which begins today and continues through Feb. 20. Fashion week draws the worlds hottest designers to Manhattan twice a year, in February and September. Those who cant jetset to New York this week need not feel left out. Jenn Bruno plans to send blogs to the Vail Daily detailing the fashion frenzy.Among the collections she plans to peruse are Thakoon Panichgul, the American designer who cloaked Michelle Obama in a floral dress the night her husband accepted the Democratic nomination. In every Vogue, there is a Thakoon dress, Jenn Bruno said. Hes definitely a designer of the future. The Brunos also plan to check out Italian designer Alberta Ferreti, who shows her collection in a Chelsea gallery. Its a relaxed atmosphere, Jenn Bruno said. Theres lots of champagne flowing, and they have the models walking around in a less structured environment. This wont be the Brunos first brush with fashion week. The couple has been traveling to the event for seven years. Were learning about new trends, Luca Bruno said. Its very important for us to be present and see new companies and new designers.High Life Writer Sarah Mausolf can be reached at 970-748-2938 or email@example.com.
