Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL, Colorado – The Town of Vail Building Division will be offering free coffee, pastries and some useful advice on selected topics each Friday in May to promote national Building Safety Month. The weekly coffee sessions will take place from 7 to 8 a.m. in the town’s Community Development Department offices, 75 S. Frontage Rd. Contractors, residents and other members of the public are welcome to take part. The informal sessions will be hosted by Chief Building Official Martin Haeberle and his staff who will be available to answer questions on a variety of topics.

Weekly themes for the Friday discussions will include energy and green building on May 4; disaster safety and mitigation on May 11; fire safety and awareness on May 18; and backyard safety on May 25.

Haeberle and his staff are responsible for the safeguarding of the public health, safety and general welfare through implementation of the town’s building codes. More than 4,000 inspections take place each year in Vail to ensure the standards established by the building codes are adhered to.

Building Safety Month is sponsored by the International Code Council Foundation, the non-profit subsidiary of the International Code Council. The Town of Vail is among more than 135 jurisdictions from across the U.S. participating in the recognition.
