VAIL Colorado –Vail Christian High School students Matthew Myers, Sebastian Pierce-Durance, Ian Ryan, Chase Caynoski and Chris Purse and their counselor, Mindy Larson, recently went through training through the “River Watch” program to continue their participation in the statewide watershed monitoring program.

River Watch, a program sponsored by the Colorado Department of Wildlife , provides training, equipment and support for hands-on, year-round water quality monitoring of Colorado’s rivers. Data collection includes macroinvertebrates, physical habitat, nutrients, metals and baseline water quality parameters. Data is used to set stream standards and goals for environmental cleanups.

The program has over 270 participants monitoring 150 rivers at 555 stations.
