Vail cleaning up the town this week

Vail Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL – Vail’s Annual Spring Cleanup takes place this week, culminating in a townwide cleanup on Saturday, rain or shine.

Non-hazardous items such as couches, mattresses and other furniture will be picked up curbside on Thursday for free. Freezers or refrigerators are not accepted, but can be taken to the Eagle County Landfill for recycling provided any Freon is removed. To make an appointment for pickups, call the town’s Public Works Department at 970-479-2158 no later than Wednesday.

Also, Dumpsters – to dispose of items such as televisions, bed springs and small furniture – will be available from Thursday through Sunday at the North Trail parking lot in West Vail and the Ford Park parking lot on the south side of Interstate 70. Disposal of hazardous materials is not permitted, but may be taken to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility at the Eagle County Landfill in Wolcott.

Volunteers participating in the community cleanup day on Saturday are asked to gather at the top of the Lionshead parking structure for check in beginning at 8:30 a.m. Participants will be awarded a $25 donation to be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to one of many area nonprofits. All participating volunteers will be treated to free pizza and beverages donated by Blue Moose Pizza at the Arrabelle at Vail Square beginning at noon.

To register for the event, e-mail and indicate how many volunteers will be coming and the non-profit recipient. For additional details, contact Kristen Bertuglia at 970-477-3455 or Carlson at 970-479-2333.
