VAIL — Vail’s annual community meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Donovan Pavilion will be headlined by celebrations recognizing the contributions of longtime residents Vi and Byron Brown as well as Town Manager Stan Zemler, who will be leaving his post at the end of the month.

The annual gathering is hosted by the Vail Town Council and town staff. In addition to updates on the state of the town, the event will pay tribute to the Browns for their many years of civic involvement in the community. The Browns are recipients of the newly-established Vail Trailblazer Award, an annual recognition presented by the town. In addition, community members are invited to join the Town Council in recognizing Zemler for his 13 years in Vail and the many accomplishments during his tenure.

Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. with informational displays on topics of community interest as well as opportunities to connect with Zemler and the Browns.

Project updates will be presented on topics including the Interstate 70 Vail underpass, East Vail water quality project, Slifer Plaza reconstruction, Gore Creek health, the Open Lands Plan update, Chamonix Vail and the Intermountain fuels project.

Representatives from the town’s partner agencies will also be in attendance including Vail Resorts, Colorado Department of Transportation, Eagle River Water & Sanitation District, U.S. Forest Service and Vail Recreation District.

‘Phenomenal Year’

The town’s most notable accomplishments during the past year will be reviewed by Mayor Dave Chapin during the gathering. Highlights include record sales tax collections, completion of new recreation facilities and adoption of the Gore Creek Strategic Action plan.

“We’ve had a phenomenal year with tremendous involvement from the community,” Chapin said. “From the heartwarming joy exhibited during Vail’s 50th birthday party in which we recognized Dr. Tom Steinberg as the first recipient of the Trailblazer Award, to the participation we’ve had at our open houses and other outreach events, this is a community that truly cares about making Vail a wonderful place today and for those who will follow in our footsteps.”

This is the 17th consecutive year for the annual community meeting. Parking is free and light refreshments will be served. The meeting will be recorded by High Five Access Media and will be replayed on Comcast Channel 5 during April. For more information, contact the town’s community information office at 970-479-2115.
