Vail Construction update: Arrabelle opens

VAIL, Colorado ” Here’s an update of major projects being built in Vail:

Last week, Solaris received the Colorado Department of Transportation permits that had slowed the project. Excavation work ” some 70 truckloads of dirt a day ” is now proceeding at the site, said Craig Cohn, director of sales and leasing for the project.

The project is supposed to be completed in the winter of 2009-10.

Solaris will have 77 condos, a three-screen movie theater, a 10-lane bowling alley, stores, restaurants and an ice rink/public plaza. It was approved by Vail voters in July 2006.

Workers continue to replace windows and reskin the existing building, said Chuck Madison of East West Partners, the developer.

The roof is now on the new condos, and finish work is ongoing on the interiors, Madison said.

The project calls for a redo of the exterior of the buildings and 17 new condos. There also will be additional underground parking and a new swimming pool. A phased completion is targeted for this summer and fall.

The project is “topped off” and exterior work is wrapping up, said Ron Byrne, the developer. Interior work, including plumbing and electrical work, continues, he said. Construction continues on the parking structure at the site, Byrne said.

The Vail Mountainview Residences on Gore Creek is being built on the site of Apollo Park near Ford Park. The project will have 24 condos. It’s supposed to be done late this year.

Work has stalled at the Ritz-Carlton because it lacks permits from the Colorado Department of Transportation, according to a town of Vail update that was released Thursday.

Vail Resorts’ Ritz-Carlton Residences are in Lionshead at the corner of South Frontage and West Forest roads, next to the Vail Marriott. Completion is expected in the winter of 2009-10. It will have 71 condos.

Construction is about two or three weeks ahead of schedule at the Willows, said Tye Stockton of Ron Byrne and Associates. Steel framing continues on the site, Stockton said.

The new building will have nine “fractional” units and nine condos. One condo remains unsold. The Willows is supposed to be completed in late 2008. The Willows is west of Checkpoint Charlie in Vail Village.

Some of the “skier services” functions at the Front Door are now open. Framing and finishing work continues at the chalets, according to a town of Vail update. The private ski club is supposed to be completed in March, the update said.

Vail Resorts’ Front Door includes 13 townhomes, a skier services building, a private club, a loading dock, an underground garage, a spa and an addition to the Lodge at Vail. The project is located at the base of Vail Mountain in Vail Village.

The hotel at the Arrabelle opened on Jan. 5. Final streetscape work will be completed after the ski season.

The Arrabelle will has 66 condos, 36 hotel rooms, a spa, meeting rooms, a restaurant, locker rooms, offices, stores, parking and a loading dock. The stores, including Burton, Vail Sports, Patagonia, Quiksilver and Starbucks, are open. The restaurants are Blue Moose Pizza, Centre V, the Vail Chophouse and Rimini, a sweets shop.

Officials for Four Seasons did not provide an update for this story.

The Four Seasons will have 120 hotel rooms, 16 condos and 19 “fractional” units. The site is just southwest of the main Vail roundabout. It is supposed to be completed in late 2009.
