Vail construction values for 2006 set new record

VAIL ” Construction in Vail set a new record in 2006, based on the value of what’s being built.
The Vail Community Development Department issued permits for more than $353.3 million in new construction last year. That number shattered the previous record of $245.5 million set in 2005.
The most visible projects breaking ground in 2006 include the Front Door project at the base of Vail Mountain, valued at $83 million, and Vail Mountainview Residences (formerly Apollo Park), valued at $34 million.
An addition and renovation project at Manor Vail, valued at $50 million, will begin construction this spring.
In addition to the construction projects already under way, five new developments are scheduled to begin construction during 2007: Crossroads/Solaris; the Timberline (Roost) Lodge; Four Seasons; Ritz Carlton Residences, Vail; and The Willows.
Government approvals for the redevelopment of the Lodge at Lionshead Phase III, Vail International, the Rucksack building and the Gorsuch/Clock Tower building are expected in the next few months.
