Vail could get 2 feet of snow

Daily staff report
Vail, CO Colorado

VAIL, Colorado – Vail could get 2 feet of snow this week, the National Weather Service in Grand Junction said Tuesday.

A winter storm could bring 1 to 2 feet of snow to the mountains in western Colorado by Friday afternoon, the weather service said.

Forecasters said Wednesday night and Thursday have the highest potential for snowfall. Higher amounts of snow are possible on west facing slopes, the weather service said. The winter storm warning spans 6 a.m. Wednesday through 6 p.m. Friday. Winds could reach 25 to 35 mph, the weather service said.

Anyone planning to travel in western Colorado should be ready for “severe winter driving conditions,” the warning said. Drivers should prepare for icy, snowpacked roads and “prolonged” road closures, the weather service said. Snow and blowing snow could reduce visibility to less than 1/4 mile in some places, the warning said.
