What goods or services do you provide?
Lift Flooring is a full-service flooring retailer. We specialize in taking the project from the design/planning stages all the way through the final installation. At Lift, we work with contractors, builders, architects, designers and residential clients and we are able to adjust to the needs of each individual customer. We also offer natural and manmade countertop fabrication and installation as well as custom window coverings.
What’s new or exciting at your place?
Recently, we have brought in two tile vendors that have some fresh new looks that fit in very well with somebody looking to create a “mountain contemporary” living environment. We also are the only Hunter Douglas retailer in Eagle County to carry their Allustra line, which offers the latest styles in window coverings.
What strategy do you use to differentiate your business from your competition?
We like to think that we supply the best value. We have many unique products of exceptional quality that are very affordable. We also have one the largest showrooms in the valley that allows us to beautifully display a very wide range of products and really give the customer the opportunity to put together their entire project in a comfortable setting.
What philosophy do you follow in dealing with your customers? What can your customers expect from you?
Our customers can expect us to listen. We have found that really understanding a customer’s needs is the key to smooth transaction and a finished product that the customer can enjoy for years to come. Beyond that, they can also expect fast turnaround times, free measures and great value.
Tell us a little about your background, education and experience:
Lift’s current general manager is Kirk Gruber, who has lived in the Valley for about six years now. Kirk has a degree in marketing from The Ohio State University, and prior to working at Lift, he managed install programs for a large national retailer. This experience has given him a great understanding of the flooring market as a whole and helps him steer customers in the right direction right from the start. It has also taught him the difference between selling something that’s “cheap” versus selling something that’s “inexpensive.” There is always an opportunity to add value that will pay off for the customer five or even 10 years from now, and that’s what we are really trying to do here at Lift – trying to maximize the value that a customer is going to get from their investment in new finishes.
What is the most humorous thing that has happened at your business since you opened?
Every once and a while a ground squirrel will sneak in the back door when we have it open during the summer months. Normally this would be a problem, but over here in Eagle-Vail, these little guys are pretty much domesticated. So instead of chasing them back out the door with a broom you just sit down and reason with them. They will just sit there perched up on their hind legs, nodding their little heads until they get the point and then they turn right around and let themselves out. It’s pretty funny … just ask any customer or vendor that has caught me mid-conversation with one of these critters.
