Vail Daily column: Shamrock Shuffle returns Saturday
VAIL — The Vail Recreation District’s fourth annual Krueger Family Shamrock Shuffle 10-kilometer, 5-kilometer and kids 1-kilometer fun run is scheduled for Saturday at the Vail Nordic Center. A prelude to St. Patrick’s Day, the race will begin at 4 p.m. and celebrate all things lucky, green and Irish and feature both snowshoe and Yaktrax (running devices) categories.
Following the race, a gathering will include a free Bloody Mary and Irish coffee bar provided by Avon Liquor, free seasonal ale from Crazy Mountain Brewery and a free participant dinner provided by Big Delicious Catering at the Grill on the Gore in the Vail Nordic Center.
Costs for the race are $18 to preregister or $28 day-of; $15 for students who are preregistered; or $25 on race day; and free for the kids 1K fun run. Racers can register or pick up their bib from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Icebreaker store, located in Solaris Plaza in Vail Village. The first 125 registrants will be entered to win an Icebreaker gift package at the after party following the race.
Snowshoe rentals will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Vail Nordic Center. Prizes will be given out to the top three women and men in the 10K snowshoe and Yaktrax categories and include gift certificates to the Vail Chophouse, Blue Moose Pizza and more. Costumes are encouraged and prizes will be awarded to the best St. Patrick’s Day-themed outfits. A raffle drawing will also take place for all participants at the after party with an opportunity to win Tubbs snowshoes, Yaktraxs, items from Outdoor Tech and more.
