Vail Daily column: Sonnenalp’s tango night in Vail brings out great dancers to the floor

Gotta dance was the mantra for some at the King’s Club in the Sonnenalp Resort on Thursday evening. There was live music and social dancing for those so inclined. Many guests preferred to watch as couples danced. The scene resembled something from the movie “True Lies” or a dance-off on “Dancing with the Stars”. Several tango dance instructors came up from Denver to teach some pointers and entertain the onlookers.
Most people assumed that ballroom dance instructor Reason Putman was one of the teachers from Denver, but, in fact, he was in town from Milwaukee, where he works at a dance studio. His mother, Tierney Putman, saw the invitation to tango in the Vail Daily and brought the whole family to the Sonnenalp for an evening of dance. In this case, the family that dances together, stays together. “Tonight I danced with my mother, my sister and cousins,” Reason Putman said. His father was there dancing, as well. Father-daughter team Tom and Sydney Moran did not sit still all evening and danced into the night.
Stefan Schmid, the hotel manager at Sonnenalp, said they will be bringing tango events to the King’s Club on Jan. 18, Feb. 14 (a romantic Valentine’s date night) and March 15. There is no cover charge and social dancing begins at 8 p.m. To learn more, visit http://www.sonnenalp.com.
Snowplowing efforts are a prime example of how sometimes the very people who need a service hinder its delivery.
