Vail Daily letter: A tip for the American waiter
Vail, CO, Colorado
In response to Matt Lipovsky’s letter on tipping: I am a Brit who regularly tips upwards of 20 percent when I am in the U.S., and I take great exception to your outrageous rant against me and my fellow countrymen. Stereotypes (or profiling, as you refer to it) are dangerous and I suggest you really don’t go down that road as you may not like some of the things “foreigners” have to say about some, and I repeat some, traveling Americans.
I notice that you didn’t have the guts to publish the name of the “fine dining” establishment that you currently work for. I would really be grateful if you could let all of us “pompous Brits” know so that we can avoid it like the plague (and post your views on trip advisor).
Just remember we all have a choice where we spend our vacations. Vail and Beaver Creek are pretty good, but trust me, there are many other places which are just as good.
If you ever find out how to obtain a passport you might even find out yourself, but please don’t come to the UK, as I fear you will let your nation down.
