John Kenneth Galbraith, in his scholarly presentation entitled “Money: Whence It Came, Where It Went” (Houghton Mifflin Company Boston 1975), says: “There is some evidence that undue association with money cultivates self-righteousness, political obtuseness, and an unattractively pompous manner.”

In light of contemporary Republican economic theory, would it come as a surprise were President Gingrich to pardon Bernard Madoff and appoint him treasury secretary, given the latter’s vast knowledge of international banking and finance.
