Vail Daily letter: By what standards?

The Denver Post quoted District Attorney Mark Hurlbert as stating that the man who punched a 14-year-old girl after she collided with his 4-year-old son on the slopes at Beaver Creek could receive a sentence of two years in jail. Really?

You constructed a plea bargain for the motorist who ran over a cyclist and fled, critically injuring him and leaving him for dead in the road, that resulted in a much lighter sentence.

Mr. Hurlbert, what guidelines are you following when you make decisions about filing charges against someone who commits a crime in Eagle County?

I propose that your decisions in these cases are biased and capricious. Perhaps it is time for the citizens in your district to consider a recall of their district attorney.
