Vail Daily letter: Cyclists not entitled
Vail, CO, Colorado
In reference to a letter to the editor Saturday in which a women had expressed her dismay at the police officer’s handing of an incident: I must give kudos to the Avon Police Department for their apparent common-sense approach.
The vast majority of us bicyclists, and motorists, should have the capacity to reflect on both roles. However, it seems when most don that insignificant safety helmet and mount that bike, they acquire an entitled attitude, becoming invincible to those 2-ton hunks of steel hurtling past.
As bicyclists, we are utilizing the roadways predominately for recreational purposes, while the typical motorist is purposefully traveling from point A to point B, be it work, public services, etc.
We should all be mindful of that fact and conduct ourselves appropriately.
