Vail Daily letter: Donate to schools

Kelly Alter Pope
Vail, CO, Colorado

I donated my time and money to the Education Foundation of Eagle County because the state funding in Colorado is inadequate to sustain quality schools. Every district in the state of Colorado is struggling to meet the needs of our children, and Eagle County is no exception.

The children are the future of this state and our country. The Constitution guarantees every child the right to a quality education. Unfortunately, we are failing to provide our children with the education they deserve.

The Education Foundation of Eagle County was created to raise money to supplement the budgets of Eagle County schools.

There are two critical areas of importance to maintaining good schools. We need both effective and passionate teachers in the classroom and reasonable student-to-teacher ratios. Budget cuts are threatening both of these.

In response to these major setbacks, the Education Foundation of Eagle County has been working with the district to create a policy that enables the use of private funds to supplement staffing. On Wednesday, March 28, the Board of Education approved this

proposal.

The Education Foundation of Eagle County has created a mechanism by which we can use private dollars to help add to the funding to create a better school system.

Over 4,000 voters in Eagle County said “yes” to education and our

children.

Please, help the children of Eagle County retain their amazing teachers and continue to learn in a productive school environment.
