Vail Daily letter: Food for Kids
Vail, CO, Colorado
Food Rescue Express has a program that started in 2009, called the Food for Kids Backpack Program. We provide backpacks to kids who are in the Eagle County School District’s free-reduced lunch program. They are chosen by the school’s coordinator.
The kids receive nonperishable food items to feed them three meals Saturday and three meals Sunday.
The backpacks are then delivered to the eight schools and returned to be filled for the following weekend. We fed about 60-plus kids per week.
This school year, from in September through December, we have fed 786 kids, which is equivalent to 4,716 meals. If you would like more information, you can visit our website at foodrescue

Participate in The Longevity Project
The Longevity Project is an annual campaign to help educate readers about what it takes to live a long, fulfilling life in our valley. This year Kevin shares his story of hope and celebration of life with his presentation Cracked, Not Broken as we explore the critical and relevant topic of mental health.
If you would like to sponsor a child for one month, the cost is $30 (approximately) or $200 per school year (approximately). We are a nonprofit organization and we all volunteer our time. Again, thank you to everyone who help us to continue to feed the kids.
