Vail Daily letter: Four-H is great
Vail, CO Colorado
Four-H has always been something I look forward to. I have learned many things and made friends through the 4-H program. A few of the things I have learned through 4-H are money management, public speaking and record keeping.
I am a member of the Sweetwater Bandits 4-H Club. I raise swine, beef and poultry. I show horses in the English, Western, working ranch horse, and Gymkhana divisions, and am a member of the Freedom Riders Drill Team.
I also participate in the shooting sports project. I have been doing 4-H since I was 8 years old and am planning on doing it until I am 18.
I am now an intermediate 4-H’er and am a member of the exchange club. I recently went to Mercer County, Ohio, for a week on a 4-H exchange. I stayed with a 4-H family that raises hogs and does photography for 4-H. I learned about how their 4-H program differs from ours and the way we live differently.
I sell three animals every year at the junior livestock sale. I use that money to pay for the next year’s animals and to pay for college. I greatly appreciate the buyers from the sale and how generously they support this program.
I would like to invite everyone to the 2009 Junior Livestock Auction on Saturday, Aug. 1, with a barbecue beginning at noon for potential buyers and their families and the sale beginning at 1p.m. in the Eagle River Center. Come out to bid on quality market animals that are home grown by local 4-H members.
Overall 4-H has been a very good experience for me. I love all the members and the extension agents. I would recommend the 4-H program to anyone.
From teaching valuable life skills to practical things like sewing, to more agricultural based projects like raising cattle, 4-H is a great program.
