Vail Daily letter: Great event for League of United Latin American Citizens

As Halloween day approached, Eagle Valley High School Students organized an event for parents, students, and teachers. The Hispanic group LULAC (League of United Latin American Citizens) organized a Halloween-themed dinner which included fun games, a table full of food, appetizers, and desserts and the participation of the folkloric dancers Ballet Folklorico Herencia Mexicana, from Vail.

The goal of this event was to get the Hispanic community involved with the school, especially families of the members of LULAC. Every member contributed with a main dish to share with the rest of the families and teachers. The officers helped with the desserts and drinks. The LULAC officers are: President Sergio Ornelas, Vice President Maida Diaz, and Secretary Joselyne Salinas,

Treasurer: Ariana Palacios, Public Relations: Jacqueline Rodriguez, and Historian: Emily Chavez.

Also, different restaurants (Andreitas, Carniceria Angus, Antojitos) located in Gypsum helped by donating materials such as food, plates, napkins — everything necessary to make a fun night possible for these families. Several teachers from Eagle Valley High School also contributed with the silverware. The event started with the dinner, then followed with the folkloric dancers. To close the night, teachers, parents and students battled each other in fun and exciting games.

Parents of the students were happy and almost everyone left saying, “We had a good time.”

All members worked hard to make this dinner a success, contributing in every way possible. Everything took a lot of planning, from getting everything organized, to decorations, to entertainment.

The event wouldn’t have been possible without the club officers, sponsor Marie Rita, and the permission from Principal Mark Strakbein, Vice Principal Eric Mandeville, and Athletic Director Cliff Zehring.
