Vail Daily letter: Great times in Vail

Becky Ellison
Vail, CO, Colorado

I am pretty sure that I was the young racer that the Vail Ski Patrol sponsored in 1969. My name is Becky Ellison.

I remember it well. Bob Parker and Dicky Pete came to me through my coach at the time, George Rau, and told me that they wanted to sponsor me for the next year because I was a fine young racer, and very dedicated. My father, Erine Ellison, was working at the time at Gorsuch Ltd. Dave and Rene were so wonderful to him and me at the time.

I miss those times so much! I will never forget Bob Parker, Dickey Pete, the Vail Ski Patrol, Vail Associates, the Slifer company or all of the wonderful people of Vail.

I did make the U.S. Ski Team, the development team, after the 1970 U.S. Nationals in Park City, Utah. I won the Downhill and got third in the Combined. The next year I did all right, but due to injuries and my father’s failing health, I retired from the team.

My children learned to ski in Vail, and they take their children there when they go skiing.

Thank you to all, and God bless Bob Parker. He is a great man.
