Vail Daily letter: Hoy committed to safety
Vail, CO Colorado
I have known your sheriff, Joe Hoy, for over 40 years. We first met when we were both young Army officers going through helicopter flight school. We were in the same unit in Vietnam and, quite frankly, Joe risked his life to save mine!
Over the years, we have kept in touch and when Joe told me eight years ago that he was going to run for sheriff, I was not surprised. Joe has always had a sense of commitment.
Two years ago, my wife and I had a chance to spend a couple of days with Joe and his wife, Linda, there in Eagle County. I was able to tour his offices and facility and meet some of the deputies. I noted a sense of pride or “esprit de corps,” as we said in the Army throughout the organization.
Over dinner, we discussed the challenges of being sheriff and what plans he had for the sheriff’s department. Even then, Joe had a keen sense of what the county and the department would be facing in the near future. He said there were some tough decisions to be made that would affect the community and the sheriff’s department. There was no doubt as to Joe’s commitment to his job.
Your sheriff, Joe Hoy, has spent a lifetime committed to the safety and security of others, once in Vietnam and now as sheriff of Eagle County.
When re-elected, I know Joe will be true to the people of Eagle County.
