Vail Daily letter: I cherish my vote
July 26, 2010
I received an e-mailed “Statement by Tom Tancredo” tonight in which he has threatened to run for governor of Colorado as the candidate of the American Constitution Party unless Scott McInnis and Dan Maes commit to drop out of the race no matter who wins the Aug. 10 GOP primary.
Tancredo demanded their commitment by noon on July 26. The purpose of Tancredo’s threat is to allow the state GOP to pick a candidate of their choice. It is apparent that Tancredo et al have not heard the groundswell of concerned citizens who have recently become involved in the process to elect those to office who actually represent the people.
Mr. Tancredo, this is the United States of America. We have the right to vote and have our votes count. It is outrageous to think that our citizens would vote for that candidate who they determine is the most qualified for office and that you think it acceptable to throw those votes in the commode.
Mr. Tancredo, you have the right to run for any office as the candidate of any party that will have you, but you do not have the right to make threats that will obviate my cherished vote. Shame on you!
