Vail Daily letter: Mountain safety seems to be waning
Vail, CO, Colorado
We’ve been skiing Vail for over 30 years and are distressed by the declining safety on the mountain. Where are the Yellow Jackets?
Last season we skied 21 days, and in that time we spotted only two Yellow Jackets.
On busy days and weekends, the “Zero Tolerance” signs are useless, unless they are patrolled by humans. On a regular basis, we see skiers/boarders straightlining in slow zones packed with beginners and jumping over “zero tolerance” signs
Vail used to do a better job and perhaps the decline in patrolling is a result of budget cuts.
Whatever the reason, Vail needs to do a better job.
