Vail Daily letter: New adventure

All things come to those who wait. It has been 17 years since I served my country. I will be chronicling the experiences of joining the Colorado Army National Guard and take you on a trip with me.

Patriotism is not dead and becoming a citizen solder is a noble countenance of my prior service. I am working with Sergeant First Class Holloway to make this possible.

I am a former Marine who has lived in our valley for the last five years and had many vocations in my almost 37 years.

Why the Guard? I have an associate’s degree and want to be a teacher, but have no money to finish my teaching degree. If you join the Guard, you receive free college tuition.

What are the difficulties in joining the Guard? Well for me, my discharge from the Marines and my current weight. I will require a medical waiver for my discharge and need to drop 50 pounds.

Both of these goals will be detailed in future reports. Come with me on my midlife adventure.
