Vail Daily letter: No to flavored milk at school!
Vail, CO, Colorado
Avon Elementary school has really set the bar for other schools in taking charge of the health of our children.
Banning the sales of flavored milk is a huge step in the long process of school lunch reform.
For those of you who don’t really understand, the schools must offer the sales of two milk products. This is not for the health of our children, but for the fact that the Dairy Council makes money off of our kids purchasing their products.
Parents should be outraged with the profit-making business that is at the expense of their children’s well-being.
Just as ketchup and french fries are considered vegetables by the guidelines set before the school districts, flavored milk is equally as ridiculous and should be banned districtwide.
This will take the efforts of parents, teachers and all of us who are concerned for children within our valley.
Please write letters or contact your students schools demanding that they ban the sales of flavored milk as soon as possible. This is the easiest way to start our own lunch reform here in the valley, which doesn’t cost the schools one penny.
