Vail Daily letter: Off-road trails at risk

The Colorado River Valley and Kremmling Bureau of Land Management field offices have proposed a Resource Management Plan revision and are asking for feedback.

One of those user groups they want to hear from are ATV/OHV users. All of the proposed options will shut down OHV riding trails. OHVs contributed at least $1 billion to the Colorado 07-08 season annually (source: Colorado Off-Highway Vehicle Coalition Economic Contribution of Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation in Colorado Executive Summary July 2009). Compare this to the $1.7 billion spent in 2008 by overnight visitors to Colorado related to the skiing industry (source: Longwoods International). We are gaining respectful ground in helping our state’s economic stand, including local businesses.

We encourage OHV enthusiasts to go to the BLM website and send detailed feedback for each specific proposed riding trail closure. The comments should be substantive, and not include vague or open-ended questions.

Send your comments to: BLM Colorado River Valley Field Office, RMP Comments, 2300 River Frontage Road, Silt, CO 81652. Or, you may fax or email them: 970-876-9090 or

Comment deadline is Dec. 15, so we must act quickly.
