Vail Daily letter: Plenty of wilderness now

In a recent column the editor of the Vail Daily wrote about the Hidden Gems proposal and made the following statement: “Too bad the folks with plenty of room for roaring are also compelled to whine.”

Well, I have a news flash for Mr. Rogers and his neighborhood of special interest groups that are behind the Hidden Gems lockout. That knife cuts both ways.

In the United States, there are over 109 million acres of wilderness area, which equals 170,983 square miles. If we look at the numbers by state, we see that Colorado has the fifth-largest amount of wilderness area acres in the nation with over 3.7 million acres of wilderness or 5,792 square miles of wilderness area.

With these facts in mind, maybe Mr. Rogers and his special interest group of friends should roam around the millions of acres that are already in their neighborhood and stop their constant whining.

Finally, I would like to remind everyone including Mr. Rogers that the overall majority of the public is against this proposal. Poll after poll has proved this fact.

It is time that the majority stand up to the special interest groups behind this proposal and refuse to let them shove it down our throats, which seems to be the preferred method of operation these days for the majority of politicians and the elitist special interest groups they represent.
