Vail Daily letter: Questions need for Eagle River Station

Kelly Conley
Vail, CO, Colorado

Thank you, Brad Hasley, for your response to my letter! I thought, finally, someone was going to tell me what I was missing in regards to the Eagle River Station development. But instead I just got another “build it and they will come” response with no real explanation or even reasoning.

You state that Eagle River Station will fill a current town need. What need is it filling? Tax revenues? There are no tax revenues if the buildings are vacant. You state that the current Eagle businesses are starving. How is Eagle River Station going to help that situation? Why are current business owners that I have spoken with opposed to Eagle River Station ? In fact, the only business owner that I have spoken to who is for Eagle River Station is a developer.

I would like to apologize for the confusing language used in my first response regarding how long I have lived in the Vail Valley. While I did move around quite a bit for the first 25 years of my life, I have been working and living in the Vail Valley for the last 15 years, the last 10 of those as a home owner in Eagle.

I have yet to hear a valid argument as to why this project will succeed, why shoppers are going to flock to Eagle, why 600 rental units are needed? I am obviously not the only person who thinks Eagle can do better than building just another strip mall.
